USPS Announces First-Day Ceremony for Pete Seeger Stamp
The United States Postal Service has announced that the first‑day‑of‑issue ceremony for the Pete Seeger Forever Stamp will take place on July 21 in Newport, Rhode Island. The event will open a special concert honoring the legendary folk singer.
The ceremony and concert will be held Thursday, July 21, at the Jane Pickens Theater, located at 49 Touro Street in Newport. The ceremony begins at 8 p.m., followed by live music. The concert, sponsored by Newport Folk, is titled “For Pete’s Sake.”
Attendance is limited to guests aged 21 and older. A limited number of tickets are available, and interested attendees may register online.
Honoring Pete Seeger’s Legacy
According to the U.S. Postal Service, Pete Seeger used music as a powerful tool to address social issues and unite voices in song. He wrote influential works such as If I Had a Hammer and Turn! Turn! Turn! and helped popularize traditional folk songs. His adaptation of We Shall Overcome became a defining anthem of the civil rights movement.
